Dear Colleague:
On behalf of the AAAI Special Interest Group in Manufacturing (SIGMAN), the National Science
Foundation, DOE/Sandia National Laboratories, DARPA, and NIST, we welcome your participation
in the 1998 Artificial Intelligence and Manufacturing Workshop, to be held in Albuquerque, New
Mexico, August 31-September 2, 1998. Participants from government, industry and academe are
welcome. This conference provides a focused gathering of researchers and practitioners in
manufacturing with researchers and practitioners in AI to discuss how AI-based technology is used
today and what needs to be done to increase the use of AI for addressing manufacturing problems.
The workshop will provide a forum for reviewing the state of the art and the state of practice and for
discussing promising new avenues for research and applications.
THE WORKSHOP
The Workshop will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Formal proceedings will
include juried papers from the AI community, and will be published by AAAI Press. The Workshop
will include paper presentations, focused working sessions, and tours of Sandia National Laboratories
and other local manufacturing sites.
LOCATION
Albuquerque, the "Duke City", was founded in 1706. Albuquerque
is the largest city in the state of
New Mexico and is a favorite tourist destination, with a wealth of historic sites, more art galleries (in
Albuquerque and Santa Fe) than Paris, France, unique cuisine and natural
beauty. It's located in the
Rio Grande Valley tucked in amongst mountain ranges and desert mesas.
Your stay promises to be an unforgettable experience!
