Dear SIGMAN members and friends:
We would like to solicit nominations for the following SIGMAN
positions (current position holders are listed in parentheses):
- Academic Co-Chair (Steve Smith, Carnegie Mellon University)
- Member-at-large (Shane Chang, Honda R&D North America)
- Newsletter Secretary (Maria Gini, University of Minnesota)
All positions are for two-year terms. The duties, as listed in
the SIGMAN Charter, are:
Officers must be members of AAAI during their terms of office.
ACADEMIC CO-CHAIR, normally a full-time employee of an academic
institution; duties shall include organizing and conducting the
yearly business meeting, representing SIGMAN to the AAAI parent
(the senior current CO-CHAIR PERSON shall be designated as the
"AAAI Liaison"), promoting interaction between SIGMAN and other
bodies, supporting the organization and execution of workshops,
and assuring interaction between the sub-areas of SIGMAN.
MEMBER-AT-LARGE; duties shall include actively identifying
problems of interest to the members, organizing workshops and
other activities, and promoting cooperation among experts and
practitioners in AI and Manufacturing.
NEWSLETTER SECRETARY; duties shall include actively soliciting
and collecting material of interest to the membership, and
compiling and issuing the newsletter as appropriate (not less
than 4 times per year), in machine readable and transmittable
form when possible.
Please send nominations to either of us by September 30, 1999.
You should include contact information (e-mail and phone number)
and a few lines of credentials for each nominee. The elections
will be conducted by email or (snail) mail in October/November.
Terms of office will begin at the end of November and last two
years. These elections are conducted later than specified in the
SIGMAN Charter, but they have been discussed and approved at the
last annual SIGMAN Business meeting.
